Pamper Your Cat For Happy Cat Month

September 15, 2021

September is a pretty important month for our feline friends: it’s Happy Cat Month! Kitties definitely deserve to be happy and healthy. Fluffy is an easy keeper, but she’ll be much more content with some ‘purrsonalized’ care. Here, an Olympia, WA vet lists some ways you can get your furry little friend purring.

Soft Beds

Our feline pals are very, very tired. Fluffy can sleep up to 20 hours a day, though she’ll usually manage with ‘only’ 14 to 16 hours. Comfy beds are a must for these sleepy furballs. Fluffy will appreciate a few store-bought beds, but you can also put soft blankets or pillows on chairs or ottomans, or in boxes or wicker baskets. Of course, some cats will just drape themselves over chair backs, fence rails, or even radiators, or curl up in shoeboxes. There’s just no accounting for taste!

Catnip

Giving your frisky pet catnip can be just as fun for you as it is for her. Kitties are hilarious when they are enjoying their favorite plant! Don’t worry about overdoses: once Fluffy has had her fill, she’ll just curl up for a nap and sleep it off.

Toys/Playtime

Your cute little pet has the instincts of a lion, and she’s pretty much hardwired to ‘hunt’ things. Give your frisky furball lots of toys to push under the couch. Of course, interactive play is both more fun and more challenging for Fluffy than solo play. Try to play with your cat every day. Just keep a few toys near your favorite chair or sofa, and work it into your relaxation time.

Grooming

Cats are very clean, but that doesn’t mean they don’t enjoy being groomed. Longhaired kitties are especially appreciative of being brushed regularly. This is a wonderful way to both spend time with your pet and make her feel pampered. Use the time to check for things like bumps, bruises, sore spots, and lesions.

Cat Furniture

Fluffy isn’t shy about getting comfy on our beds, sofas, chairs, and laps. However, she really will enjoy and appreciate having some things that were made just for her. Cat towers are great, as they offer your kitty lookout points, scratching posts, and jungle gyms. Pet tents and tunnels are also very popular with our feline overlords.
