7 Things Cats Actually Are Thankful For

November 15, 2021

It’s almost Thanksgiving! We love those delicious holiday meals as much as anyone else, but it’s also important to take time to remember the reason for the holiday: gratitude. Read on as a Tumwater, WA vet lists some things that your feline friend actually appreciates.

Beds

If there is one thing all cats have in common, it’s a love of naps. Kitties can sleep up to 20 hours a day! Unsurprisingly, comfy napping spots rank pretty high on the list of the things Fluffy actually appreciates.

Toys

Kitties may be cute and innocent looking, but they are actually very efficient hunters with strong predatory instincts. It’s very good for Fluffy to be able to indulge her inner lioness sometimes. Offer your frisky little furball lots of fun toys to bat under the couch. Of course, dual play sessions are much more fun for kitties than playing alone. Take time to play with your cat every day.

Sunbeams

Cats are not actually cold-blooded. However, we’re not sure that anyone has actually told them that yet. Fluffy certainly does love basking in the sun! Put one of your feline pal’s beds in a spot that gets a lot of light. You’ll probably find your furry little sunbather relaxing there on sunny mornings.

Laps

Fluffy is probably pretty grateful for the fact that she fits very well into her humans’ laps. We apparently must be pretty comfortable!

Clean Litterboxes

We can’t blame Fluffy for this one: nobody likes a dirty bathroom. Keep your furball’s powder room clean by regularly scooping it out and replacing the litter every week.

Windows

We always recommend keeping cats inside: it’s just much safer for them. However, Fluffy will enjoy being able to look outside and watch birds, squirrels, rain, snow, and/or pedestrians. If you make your furry friend a comfy window seat, there’s a pretty good chance she’ll spend a lot of her time in it.

You

We may like to joke around about how aloof cats are, but that really isn’t accurate. In fact, many kitties are very loving and cuddly. Your fuzzy buddy may show her affection in some odd ways, but that’s just purr for the course with these quirky balls of fur.

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us here at Olympia Veterinary Hospital, your Tumwater, WA animal hospital. Please feel free to call us anytime!
